Isabel “Chicha” Chorobik de Mariani
Nació el 19 de noviembre de 1923 en Cañada Seca, San Rafael, Mendoza. Desde pequeña la apodaron Chicha. Entre 1943 y 1946 cursó en la Academia de Artes Plásticas de la Universidad de Cuyo, y ejerció la docencia como profesora particular de dibujo y pintura.
En La Plata se casó con el músico y director de orquesta Enrique Mariani, y tuvieron un solo hijo, Daniel Enrique. Allí Chicha retomó los estudios y se recibió en la Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de la UNLP. Como pintora, ganó más de 200 premios en distintos concursos. En 1962 comenzó a dar clases de Historia del Arte en el Liceo Víctor Mercante, donde fue jefa del departamento de estética entre 1966 y 1977.
Luego del asesinato de su nuera y el secuestro de su nieta el 24 de noviembre de 1976 y el asesinato de su hijo el 1 de agosto de 1977, Chicha dedicó su vida a la búsqueda Clara Anahí. Tenía entonces 54 años.
El 21 de noviembre de 1977 conformó junto a otras abuelas la agrupación Abuelas argentinas con nietitos desaparecidos, que luego se denominaría Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo. Fue su presidenta hasta 1989, cuando decidió irse de la organización. Algunos años después, en 1996, fundó la Asociación Anahí. A partir de 2014 formó parte de la Comisión Provincial por la Memoria como asesora académica.
Chicha murió en el año 2018, a los 94 años. La búsqueda de Clara Anahí continúa.
María Isabel – also known from a young age as “Chicha” – was born on November 19, 1923, in Cañada Seca, San Rafael, Mendoza. Between 1943 and 1946, she attended the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Cuyo and worked as a private teacher of drawing and painting.
In La Plata, she married the musician and orchestra conductor Enrique Mariani, and they had one child, Daniel Enrique. There, Chicha resumed her studies and graduated from the School of Fine Arts at the UNLP. As a painter, she won more than 200 awards in various competitions. In 1962, she began teaching art history at the Víctor Mercante High School, where she was head of the aesthetics department from 1966 to 1977.
At 54 years of age, after the murder of her daughter-in-law and the kidnapping of her granddaughter on November 24th, 1976, and the murder of her son on August 1, 1977, Chicha dedicated her life to the search for Clara Anahí.
On November 21, 1977, she and other grandmothers formed the group «Argentine Grandmothers with Disappeared Grandchildren,» which would later be called «Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo.» She served as its president until 1989, when she decided to leave the organization. A few years later, in 1996, she founded the Anahí Association. In 2014, she began working as an academic advisor on the Provincial Commission for Memory. Chicha died in 2018, at the age of 94.
